Delaware County ARES-RACES assists local communities and charitable organizations by providing communications support for parades, walks, runs and other events where public safety is a concern. Each year the unit provides a robust communications team at both the MS Walk and March for Babies held at Ridley Creek State Park. Delaware County ARES-RACES also supports the efforts of sister units in other counties by providing radio operators for such diverse events as the Livestrong Challenge bicycle race in Montgomery County, dog sled races in Sullivan County and the Limerick Nuclear Generating Station drill in Chester County. In recent years, Delaware County ARES-RACES has taken a lead role in providing auxiliary communications for the federally mandated airport emergency preparedness exercise (EPEX) at PHL Airport. These events offer an opportunity to help local communities and organizations as well as providing excellent training operating under challenging field conditions.
